Curriculum Survey

SMART Member District Curriculum Surveys

In late summer of 2003, the SMART Consortium polled curriculum professionals in its member school districts, requesting  information about the mathematics and science curricula these districts were employing.   This process has been repeated in subsequent  school years.

Updated curriculum data not only provides SMART with a valuable curriculum “profile" across the consortium, but also offers insights into ways that SMART can help its member districts maximize the effectiveness of these programs to achieve sustained improvement in mathematics and science teaching and learning.  Knowing the curricula SMART member school districts are employing, SMART can:

  • Facilitate appropriate and meaningful professional development activities to further enhance understanding and effectiveness;
  • Foster inter-district communication (electronic, person-to-person, and group) and sharing of information and experiences about the various curricula;
  • Implement a member-to-member support network, whereby current curriculum users can advise and mentor districts contemplating adopting that curriculum, provide phase-in and transitional assistance, assist in teacher/administrator training, etc.
